Woman shot at gender reveal party not actually pregnant, police say

A woman did not lose her unborn child during a shooting at a gender reveal party because she wasn't pregnant, police said.

Cheyanne Willis threw a gender reveal party, but was not pregnant, Ohio police told WCPO-TV

On July 8, Willis and others gathered at an Ohio home where she was going to announce the gender of her baby. Police said they believe two gunmen entered through the front door and fired 14 rounds while attendants were watching a movie, WCPO-TV reported.

One person was killed and another eight injured, including three children. A dog was also injured.

"From the very beginning of this investigation, we have met significant resistance that is uncommon from victims of crime wanting a resolution," a news release from police Chief Mark Denney said.

Willis told WCPO-TV that she lost her pregnancy after she was shot in the leg.

Denney said he wasn't trying to embarrass anyone by revealing the fake pregnancy, but wanted to illustrate the difficulties the police department has been facing.

"The Colerain Police Department will not comment further on any other misleading information, other than to say we wish our time had been spent on true leads that would help us remove these dangerous criminals from the streets," Denney said.

So far, no one has been arrested.

Will and Kelen Settle welcomed Carter Louise Settle, their first child together, into the world on June 25. According to Will, she’s the first girl born into the Settle family in 137 years across four generations.

“My mother just went nuts. My mom always wanted a daughter,” Will told ABC News. “She was absolutely ecstatic. She could not believe it.”

After the couple returned to their home in Bluffton, South Carolina, with their baby girl, a coworker told Will to drive toward Savannah, Georgia, and turn around and drive home. The coworker said there was a surprise waiting.

“I had an idea what it was going to be,” Will, the head of sales for Marlin Outdoor Advertising, told The Island Packet. “We have a lot of billboards in that area.”

Will, 38, had also received more than a dozen texts from friends who had driven by the billboard.

“When I first saw it, it was an ‘Oh my God’ moment,” Will told  ABC News. “It is so pink, so large. It’s pretty obnoxious, I hate to say. It is so in your face, you wouldn’t believe it.”

Kelen said she thinks the idea was cute and looks forward to telling her daughter about the billboard when she’s older.

The company has 900 billboards in the two states, he said, and his coworkers used one of them to display a birth announcement for Carter. The 12-foot-tall, 24-foot-wide announcement sits off Highway 315 and features a picture of the little girl with a message that reads, “Welcome to the World Carter Louise Settle.”

Will said his sales route takes him as far north as Rock Hill, South Carolina, and as far west as Statesboro, Georgia, meaning he often gets to drive past the billboard and see his daughter’s face.

The Clooneys announced that they were expecting twins in February.

“It’s going to be an adventure,” George Clooney said of fatherhood in an interview earlier this year.

In a separate interview, the “Oceans 11” actor said he’s prepared for fatherhood.

“I know swaddling. I know what I’m in for,” he said

The Clooneys became engaged in April 2014 and wed in Venice, Italy, that same year.

Ella and Alexander are the couple’s first children.

Senior student barred from Christian school's graduation because she's pregnant

Maddi Runkles is a senior at The Heritage Academy in Hagerstown, Maryland.

With a 4.0 grade point average, athletics commitments and a leadership role in the school’s Key Club, she was all set to graduate this spring.

Then came her son, Grayson.

Runkles learned she was pregnant in January. The Heritage Academy, a conservative Christian school, considers premarital sex a violation of its code of conduct, as do many institutions with similar values.

Despite the fact that she attends a Christian school, she said she considered an abortion. A 2014 study found that nearly 60 percent of women who have abortions identify as Catholic or Protestant.

“I had worked so hard for (graduation), and I made one mistake, and all my hard work was being taken away from me,” she told WUSA-9.

WUSA-9 reported that she was first removed from her position on the student council and suspended for two days. She was also told that she’d be forced to finish the school year at home, by herself.

But that changed when a group of students and parents petitioned the school to allow her to finish the year.

“I mean, all I did that was wrong was just have sex before marriage, which they don’t agree with,” said Runkles, who said carrying the child was“the right decision.”

That’s not how her high school sees it. Principal Dave Hobbs planned to tell the entire school about her pregnancy and resulting suspension, according to Students for Life, an anti-abortion group that’s gotten involved on her behalf.

When interviewed, Hobbs said the school’s code of conduct is applied on a case-by-case basis, but that the school has already been generous in allowing Runkles to finish her school year on the premises.

Her father, Scott Runkles, said he resigned from his position as a member of the school’s board because of how his daughter was treated.

An expectant mother in Australia decided to take a swing at curing her morning sickness.

Vicky Sims, 39, of Melbourne, who is nine months pregnant, found that working out helps to offset some of the symptoms of her pregnancy, according to Inside Edition.

Sims, a gym owner, has an exercise regime that consists of 30 minutes of boxing and 30 minutes of lifting weights that she has kept up throughout her pregnancy.

“When you are pregnant, there are so many restrictions and physical and emotional changes, which can be hard to adjust to, but exercise really helps (me) feel good,” Sims told Inside Edition.

She found that the exercise helped relieve the nausea related to her pregnancy. She also kept a strict diet through her first two trimesters, according to Inside Edition.

“Eating for two is a very old-fashioned mentality ... it’s not a green light to go crazy,” Sims told Inside Edition. “This is the most important time to be healthy, so although I have definitely relaxed with my food, I am still controlled and watching what I’m putting into my mouth.”

The mother-to-be gained fewer than 25 pounds while pregnant and started showing at seven months.

Jenna Reyes gave birth to her son, Raymond Reyes, at Mercy Medical Center in Merced, California, on April 30.

Reyes told KFSN she opted to have a C-section, since she was expecting a 10-11 pound baby. But when Raymond arrived, he was bigger than anyone expected. He weighed in at 13.5 pounds.

“I’ve worked in labor deliver for about seven years, and the largest baby I’ve ever seen was a little bit over 10 pounds, so 13 pounds is a big baby. I’ve never seen one that big,” nurse Jessica Newton said.

Reyes said clothes and diapers for newborns are too small for her new son.

“Nothing fits him,” she told KFSN. “(He) uses size two Pampers, three to six months clothes.”

Reyes told KFSN Raymond was taken by the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to be treated for jaundice and low calcium and sodium levels.

After spending a week in the NICU, Raymond was taken home and is thriving.

His big sister has promised to help take care of her new brother but insists, “I’m still the baby girl of the house.”

Newborn baby photographed with mother's IUD in hand

A woman whose birth control proved ineffective is calling her newborn baby her “Mirena baby.”

>> Read more trending news

Lucy Hellein of Fort Mitchell, Alabama, gave birth to her son, Dexter, on April 27.

A photo uploaded on Hellein’s Instagram account shows the baby was 9 pounds, 1 ounce and was 21.5 inches at birth.

But there’s something unique about Dexter’s birth -- behind the placenta, which is attached to the wall of a pregnant woman’s uterus, doctors found a Mirena IUD, fully intact.

The IUD was placed in Dexter’s hand for an ironic photo opp.

Hellein said Dexter, who was born at Martin Army Community Hospital in Fort Benning, Georgia, is a blessing. She jokingly called her son’s birth a “Mirena fail.”

“It’s next to impossible (to get pregnant),” Planned Parenthood nurse practitioner, Laura Ghasseminia told WTLV in regard to IUDs. “You have a better chance of winning the lotto.”

IUDs are said to be one of the most effective forms of birth controls. Mirena is said to be over 99 percent effective.

Hellein told WTLV her doctor thinks she might have gotten pregnant three weeks after the IUD was placed. Ghasseminia said Hellein may have been pregnant before the IUD was inserted.

Dr. Leena Nathan, an OBGYN and assistant clinical professor for the University of California at Los Angeles told Snopes that though it’s rare, doctors sometimes find failed IUDs in a pregnant woman’s uterus after her child is delivered. Pregnancies with IUDs still in the uterus can be risky.

Hellein told WTLV that doctors knew about the IUD in her uterus during her pregnancy but couldn’t find it when they went to remove it.

Hellein told WTLV her original due date was May 4, also known as Star Wars Day.

“So, the doctor was like, ‘The force is strong with this one,’” she said.

Hellein, who already had three children, said she has effectively used Mirena in the past.

“Been there! I did my final grades between contractions. Way to go! You are amazing!” wrote Tabitha Benter.

McDonald said Pope’s husband is also a teacher.

“Teachers love their students as their own. Even in labor and when they’re home sick, they care,” McDonald told parenting site Scary Mommy.
