On Saturday October 13, 2012, New York Institute of Technology's Vocational Independence Program (VIP) will host a Walkathon and Homecoming Event on the Central Islip campus to support scholarship opportunities to the VIP program.
The Vocational Independence Program is the first and foremost program of its kind in the United States endeavoring to assist students with significant learning disabilities to engage in fulfilling, independent lives using the resources of NYIT, the VIP professional staff and the Suffolk County BOCES programs. The VIP program offers 7 vocational majors – including food service, childcare, eldercare, retail, clerical, hospitality and maintenance. In addition, the program provides intensive coursework in independent living, social and academic skills.
