Greg Holgerson was a highly decorated New York City police Officer in the Anti-Crime team in Fort Greene Brooklyn from 1998 till 2003 when he switched over to Nassau County Police Department and graduated number one in his class. Upon coming out he was put into a two man car in the first precinct in Roosevelt, one of the worst areas in Nassau where he has gone on to excel and has been named cop of the month four times. In July of 2012, just days after the high of his life with his son John Thomas being born Greg went to the hospital with what he thought was a concussion, he was informed he had a blood illness. He kept this news from his family until it was officially confirmed by LIJ hospital where he was told he had acute myelogenous leukemia and would start aggresive treatments of chemotherapy the next day. He went into the hospital prepared to fight for his life knowing he had a wife and two very young children to make it home to. Fight he did as he went up against a week of 105 degree temps and a rare side affect of the chemo which affected his vision and left him in a cloudy world unable to focus. Through it all he has been a fighter despite constant setbacks, the largest being the assasination of his partner of six years Arthur Lopez Nassau County ESU officer. Despite his own problems he gave himself to arties parents and went from id the body with arties parents to planning the funeral with them, always being there for them never once worrying about himself. He has given his life to helping people and it is time that he is given some help.
On November 15th at Jackie Riellys Pub in Plainedge the Nassau County PBA and the First Precinct will hosting a benefit in his honor as well as in the honor of his slain partner Arthur Lopez.
