MARIE MARSINARecipient, "2013 Outstanding Advocate for the Arts Award"The Long Island Arts Council at Freeport recently named Marie Marsina as a recipient of a 2013 OUTSTANDING ADVOCATE FOR THE ARTS AWARD. Marie will be honored on Wednesday, March 13th at Adelphi University's Performing Arts Center for her outstanding contributions toward the advancement and education of the arts on Long Island.Please help support Marie in her goal to raise a minimum of $1,000 for this important fundraiser.Proceeds support the Long Island Art Council at Freeport's important programs and services for the children and families of the region! Marie Marsina was a financial services professional for 27-years. As Vice-President at JPMorgan Chase, she demonstrated exceptional ability to embrace new concepts, think stratically and provide leadership. Since her retirement, Ms. Marsina has shifted her focus to the non-profit world and has been exploring her interest and passion for art.In 2004, Ms. Marsina was elected the President of the National Art League (NAL) in Douglaston, where she still maintains the role. The NAL is a non-profit organization of professional artists,serious students and those interested in participating and supporting the advancement of the creative arts of drawing, painting and sculpture. The League was founded by the daughters of William Merritt Chase in 1930.In her role as President, Ms. Marsina has leveraged her business skills and has overseen the acquisition of government grants, building renovations, art programs, and group and solo exhibitions.Ms. Marsina’s artistic ability was awakened when she enrolled in an evening art class at the NAL in 1999. She paints in watercolor and oil, having studied with Ralph Acosta, Marc Josloff and Howard Rose. Finding inspiration everywhere, Ms. Marsina interprets her subjects creatively, striking a balance between abstract qualities and representational appearance. She has been honored with numerous awards, has presented her paintings in local shows and her paintings are included in numerous private collections.In addition, Ms. Marsina is currently the Vice President of the Douglaston Civic Association and was the curator for the Parlor Art Gallery for eight years. Ms. Marsina is a native New Yorker, is an active member of her community and lives with her fiancé in Douglaston, New York.The 2013 ADVOCATES FOR THE ARTS AWARDS takes place on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, 6pm to 8pm, at Adelphi University's Performing Arts Center.
