DYLAN SKOLNICKRecipient, "2013 Outstanding Advocate for the Arts Award"The Long Island Arts Council at Freeport recently named Dylan Skolnick as a recipient of the prestigious 2013 OUTSTANDING ADVOCATE FOR THE ARTS AWARD. Dylan will be honored on Wednesday, March 13th at Adelphi University's Performing Arts Center for his outstanding contributions toward the advancement and education of the arts on Long Island.Please help support Dylan in his goal to raise a minimum of $1,000 for this important fundraiser.Proceeds support the Long Island Art Council at Freeport's important programs and services for the children and families of the region! Below is a brief summary of Dylan's outstanding accomplishments:Dylan Skolnick is Co-Director at the Cinema Arts Centre,Long Island’s leading venue for alternative film. There he programs and supervises the Cinema’s monthly film programs and acclaimed series, including “Theater of the Wild,” “Critic’s Choice,” “Anything But Silent,” and “Creativity: An Eternal Mystery.” These groundbreaking series have given the Centre its reputation for quality, artistic integrity, and ingenuity in presenting independent film to the public. Mr. Skolnick is a Consultant and Film Buyer for a number of Cinemas across theUSA, including the Circle Cinema inTulsa,Oklahoma, the Hollywood Theater inPittsburgh,Pennsylvania, and the pioneering Cass City Cinema inDetroit,Michigan. He is Curator of the East Meadow Public Library’s acclaimed Independent Film Series, which is funded by the New York State Council on the Arts. Dylan also currently presents films at theHuntington, Northport,Plainview,Port Washington, and Harborfields Public Libraries. He has been a juror for the Student Academy Awards and New Zealand’s famed 48 Hours Filmmaking Contest, a panelist for the New York State Council on the Arts Re-Granting program, and a Coordinating Programmer for the Lake Placid Film Forum. Dylan is in demand as a lecturer on film. He has spoken at numerous venues, includingC.W.PostCollege, and writes a monthly column on film for LI Pulse Magazine. He is a member of the Suffolk County Film and Television Commission.Dylan is a graduate of New York’s Schoolof Visual Arts. In 2007, Mr. Skolnick graduated from the ColumbiaBusinessSchool’s Institute for Non-Profit Management Executive Level Program. He was Film Consultant on the PBS documentary “Farming the Future: Farm Life on Long Island” He has written for numerous film journals including: Films in Review, Long Island Nightlife, Long Island Free Press, and Film Folio.The 2013 ADVOCATES FOR THE ARTS AWARDS takes place on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, 6pm to 8pm, at Adelphi University's Performing Arts Center.
