Staten Island was once a secret hideaway for the elite of New York and a chic summer resort for southerners. Famous residents have included Cornelius Vanderbilt, Henry James, Frederick Law Olmsted, and Giuseppe Garibaldi. Noted NYC tour guide Justin Ferate will lead this tour of the island, pointing out sweeping waterfront vistas, a majestic Civil War fort, the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, and handsome Victorian mansions. You'll visit the Staten Island World Trade Center Memorial and the Snug Harbor Botanical Gardens, featuring the Chinese Scholar's Garden and the Tuscan Garden, modeled after the 18th century Villa Gamberaia in Florence. Lunch will be at the historic Basilio Inn, established in 1921. Limit of two tickets per Sachem Library cardholder. PLEASE NOTE: Registered guests must also be library cardholders. If you would like to bring a non-resident guest, call the Welcome Desk to add a name to our out-of-district waiting list, and we will notify you if there are any openings. Payment must be made in person at the Welcome Desk within three days of registering or your reservation will be canceled.
