Lecture by Colleen Hill, Associate Curator of Accessories,
The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York.
Hill will discuss the art of millinery’s peak period, the 20th century, using three significant designers who shaped the New York hat industry as examples. From Mr. John, whose designs were worn by Vivien Leigh in Gone with the Wind, to the unique styles of Sally Victor, to Lilly Dache, who created hats for stars such as Audrey Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich, this lecture will highlight a period of time when a woman chose a new hat before she chose the outfit to wear with it.
