What can $12,000 buy you? Maybe a nice piece of art, a month's rent in NYC, or one of Lady Gaga's acrylic fingernails. Take your pick.
Some wealthy Little Monster in the U.K. just dropped more than $12,000 to buy one of the pop diva's mislaid fingernails at auction. That's one dedicated fan!
Lady Gaga wore a particularly impressive set of pointy black and gold acrylic nails when she performed at Aviva Stadium in Dublin last September. Apparently one of the nails fell off at some point during the evening, and the crewmember who found it later realized he was holding a treasure. See a photo of the nail here.
“I noticed an object on the floor of the stage, which at first I thought was a guitar plectrum,” the crewmember wrote. “When I picked it up, I saw it was an acrylic nail.”
The crewmember put the nail up for auction with Boston-based auction house ArtFact, along with a photo of Lady Gaga performing at the Dublin concert with a missing nail on her left pinky finger. The winner of the auction will also get a photo of Lady Gaga wearing the full set of Aya Fukuda-designed acrylic nails in New York the night before the concert, an Aviva Stadium staff handbook, a crew wristband from the event, and the Born This Way Ball T-shirts distributed to the Dublin crew for the concert. That's a nice bundle of prizes!
Spending $12,000 for a celebrity’s fingernail is a bit unusual and creepy, but apparently there are a lot of people out there willing to spend a whole lot of money just to get a piece of a celebrity.
“This item is expected to have broad appeal from Lady Gaga’s ardent fans who want something personal for their collection,” said ArtFact CEO Rob Weisberg.
