Arizona reportedly has “mutual interest” with one of the top available coaches in football

Arizona fired head coach Rich Rodriguez on Tuesday night after six seasons, some of which was related to an investigation into Rodriguez for claims of harassment. While that situation could fester on for a while as Rodriguez has challenged those claims, it looks like Arizona is hoping to move quickly with a new candidate, as  Neal McCready of Rivals is reporting that Arizona and Miles have “mutual interest” in their now open head coaching spot.

Miles was let go by LSU in September 2016 after 12 seasons, but in total, Miles’ tenure in Baton Rouge was still seen as a success. At 64, Miles still has at least a few good years of coaching left and if Arizona were to get him, it would be a home run hire for the Wildcats.

Miles has a 113-34 career record as a head coach, having coached at both Oklahoma State and LSU. Miles’ LSU team won the BCS national championship in 2007, and lost in the BCS national championship game in 2011. Miles never won less than eight games in a full season while at LSU, and his teams won over 10 games in seven of the 12 years he was in Baton Rouge.
