R.J. Adelman, a former NBA assistant coach and son of former NBA head coach Rick Adelman, died Feb. 2 after being struck by a car. He was only 44.

According to a TMZ article posted on Thursday, Adelman was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Houston, Texas on Friday, February 2nd. He was then transported to a local hospital, and later succumbed to the injuries from the accident.

Adelman died as a result of blunt force injuries sustained during the crash.

The driver who struck Adelman was said to be driving a minivan. The 80-year-old was released without being charged, but police are still investigating the incident at the time of this writing.

Adelman worked for the Seattle Supersonics, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, and Minnesota Timberwolves. He served in multiple roles, ranging from an assistant coach to director of player personnel.

Adelman graduated from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. He played basketball for the university, helping the program win a Division II national championship in 1993.

Our thoughts go out to the entire Adelman family.
