The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced the 2011 inductees. Alice Cooper, Tom Waits, Neil Diamond, Darlene Love and Dr. John are among the latest class.

Leon Russell, who just put out an album with Elton John, will also be honored with a musical excellence award. That means 2011 nominees like Bon Jovi, and the Beastie Boys were turned away. My question is, how does Dr. John get in over Bon Jovi!?!?! No disrespect to Dr. John who has been promoting the New Orleans sound for over 50 years, but come on! Frankly, I've never been a big Bon Jovi fan but there's no question their working man's brand of Rock and Roll has earned them the devotion of millions.

They may not be critical favorites, but after 24 years they still sell out arenas all around the world. Now I know that induction onto the Rock Hall is based on artistic merit more than popularity, but their staying power and the passion Bon Jovi inspires in their fans cannot, or should not be ignored.
