Paul Ryan Brady was a firefighter in the Malverne Fire Department, who while performing his assigned duties as a mechanic on the Heavy Rescue Truck, on July 30, 2006, was crushed to death between the top of the rig and an I-beam of the firehouse when another firefighter, unaware of Paul's location, was ordered to pull the rig out of the firehouse.
The President of the United States, the US Department of Justice, the NYS Workers' Compensation Board, the County of Nassau, the Village of Malverne and the NYS Supreme Court confirmed his death as "LINE OF DUTY" which resulted in his wife, Lisa, being afforded the financial benefits from the New York State and Federal governments, and Paul's name was inscribed on the National Wall in Emmitsberg, MD & the Nassau County Wall at the Firefighter's Museum in Garden City.
Despite this recognition, 6 members of a selection committee for the NYS Fallen Firefighters Memorial Wall in Albany, have continuously denied Paul his rightful place on the Wall based on a self created definition of "line of duty" that was not in existance at the time of Paul's death.
This Sunday (9/12/10) at 10:00AM there will be a rally to support the Brady family and state legislation proposed by Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg of Long Beach and Senator Dean Skelos of Rockville Centre which would essentially eliminate the need for this rogue committee and get Paul's name on the Wall.
The rally will be held at the Nassau County Supreme Court Building, 100 Supreme Court Drive in Mineola at 10am. There will be adequate parking for both fire apparatus and private vehicles.
