Why Did Billy Joel Give Back 3 Million Dollars!?

By Donna Donna

'Piano Man' Billy Joel decided to back off his $3 million memoir following the death of his father.Even though Billy Joelalready wrote his memoir The Book of Joel, and the book was set to come out in June, the singer has backed out of his book contract and the autobiography will no longer be published.

Billy is returning the 3 million dollar advance and has released a statement that reads, “It took working on writing a book to make me realize that I’m not all that interested in talking about the past, and that the best expression of my life and its ups and downs has been and remains my music.”

An article in today's NY Daily News speculates that the decision may have something to do with the recent death of Billy's dad, and the complicated relationship they had, as well as the pressure to deliver a sensational tell all type of memoir like Keith Richards recent autobiography Life. The Daily News quotes a source as saying that Billy "became "dissatisfied" with expectations that The Book of Joel would be a tell-all about his marriages, including one to Christie Brinkley, and his battle with alcohol."
