DALTREY WAS UP FOR TYLER’S IDOL GIG

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Steven Tyler says that he was up against Who vocalist Roger Daltrey for the gig as a judge on American Idol.  Producers went with Tyler because they felt Roger was “very formal, his hair was cut, he looked like a regular guy. 

 

He had lost that sort of rock and roll charm.”  Steven Tyler went on to explain that he took the job as a judge on American Idol so he wouldn’t be “held hostage” by Aerosmith after the guys threatened to kick him out of the band.  Tyler stated, “I will be my own hostage.  The band can’t throw me out.”
