JEFF BECK AND ROBERT PLANT TO COLLABORATE?
Jeff Beck might be working on a very exciting collaboration with none other than Robert Plant. The guitar legend told PlanetRock.com that he met the Led Zeppelin singer at the New Orleans JazzFest where he said they “had a lovely chat,” adding that “there might be something there. Who knows?” Jeff explained they’re both into the Eastern and Arabic sound which is prevalent in Zeppelin’s music. He went on to say, “We’re both pretty busy at the moment but if the desire’s there, you make it happen.” Time will tell if they do.
STING TO TOUR
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Sting’s solo career and to mark the occasion, he’s hitting the road. The Back to Bass tour kicks off on October 21st in Boston and runs through December. During the show, the singer will perform stripped down versions of his hits in intimate theater settings, backed by a five piece band. It supports his forthcoming box set, Sting: 25 Years, which is due out on September 27th.
GUNS N’ ROSES ANNOUNCE MORE DATES
Guns N’ Roses have announced more dates for their upcoming American tour. In addition to previously announced shows in Florida and Missouri, Axl Rose and company will now also play in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Rosemont, Illinois in mid-November. OZZY OSBOURNE TRIBUTE ALBUM ON THE WAY
Ozzy Osbourne has influenced many a rock star and next year, some of those musicians will show their gratitude by taking part in a tribute album. It’s called No More Tears: A Millennium Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne and features current or former members of bands like Black Sabbath, Motley Crue, Kiss, Night Ranger, Spinal Tap, Dokken and many others performing the Prince of Darkness’ greatest hits, both solo and with Sabbath. It’s due out next spring.
STONES TO RELEASE DELUXE EDITION OF SOME GIRLS
There’s no word yet if The Rolling Stones will mark their 50th anniversary next year but one thing that is definitely happening is a deluxe re-issue of their classic 1978 album, Some Girls. Mick Jagger revealed to Spinner.com that, much like they did last year with Exile on Main Street, there will be an extra disc of material filled with outtakes along with the remastered album. It’s due out around Thanksgiving. As for those 50th anniversary celebrations, Jagger would only say they are discussing it.
McCARTNEY: 2012’S MUSICARES PERSON OF THE YEAR
Next year, the MusiCares Foundation will honor Paul McCartney as their Person of the Year. The Beatle great will be recognized for his creative accomplishments, charitable work and philanthropy at a ceremony held in L-A during GRAMMY week in February. Previous honorees include Sting, Neil Young, James Taylor and Don Henley.
