Thursday Everybody Must Get Stoned!

Rolling Stones in 1967
Rolling Stones in 1967

By Donna Donna

While some, like Keith Richards, consider 2013 to be the 50th anniversary of the Rolling Stones (because Charlie Watts didn’t join until January 1963), Thursday July 12, 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the band’s first live performance.

It was at London’s Marquee Club in 1962 when the band performed, among other things, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Reed and Elmore James covers.  Incidentally, the original bill flyer names them as Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones!

And in honor of the occasion (or as just an excuse to get an hour’s worth of Stones songs on the air), we’ll get Stoned on Thursday’s Perfect Lunch Hour.

Let me know what would make-up a perfect hour of Rolling Stones tunes for you and email me your choices directly at donnadonna@wbab.com. But do it quick cause we will pick out winner tomorrow (7/11) afternoon.

As far as I know there’s no footage of the show in ’62, but here’s some from the band’s first live TV appearance in the UK in 1964.
