Now that we’re all back to work, baseball fans all over Long Island are sharing their “where were you, what were you doing” stories with friends and coworkers. So Met fans “where were you, what were you doing” Friday night? 

Here’s my story: I was at a friend’s anniversary party in Manhattan and after getting off the subway and back into my car at 9:50PM. I tuned into the Met game to hear something that never happens, Howie Rose and the other guy are lingering on the air when the game is clearly over, but I don’t catch them saying why or what’s going on and then I suddenly figure it out. Johan Santana has thrown a no hitter!!!!!!

I’m so excited and so disappointed that I missed it! I rush home to watch all the coverage on SNY as I quickly dial up my son who’s still in DC (he and I are the met fans of the family) and he’s yelling “where were you I’ve been calling you all night!” 

Oh well, I may have missed watching it happen live, but it was still thrilling (I did get to watch the rebroadcast on Saturday). And I’m glad it was Johan that finally broke the 50 year record. He’s one of my favorite Mets and it couldn’t have happened to a better guy.

To get this triumph after coming back from major shoulder surgery is inspiring, and Santana is such a great competitor who means so much to this team, to his teammates and to the fans. Way to Go, Johan!!! 

If you missed it, SNY will re-air Johan Santana's entire no-hitter tonight (Monday 6/4) at 7:30 p.m, AND Santana will be on David Letterman’s show tonight.
