Mets and Yankees Battle in the Subway Series

By Donna Donna

With the Mets and Yankees records almost identical (Mets 32-26, Yankees 31-25) and the Mets out performing expectations and The Yankees underperforming, it looks like we’re going to get an exciting Subway Series this weekend!

Johan Santana makes his first start tonight after giving the Mets their first ever no-hitter just a week ago, but he has a spotty history with the Yankees. He’ll face off against Yankee pitcher Hiroki Kuroda, who is 4-6 with a 3.82 ERA.

Saturday it’s Met Dillon Gee vs. Yankee Phil Hughes, and Sunday, at 1:05 p.m. Met Jonathon Niese vs. returning Yankee great Andy Pettitte

Of course on paper The Yankees have the distinct advantage over the Mets so logic would have it that our boys from Queens are fighting an uphill battle but, as columnist Frank Nappi said in the Bleacher report yesterday “this is baseball folks—logic is not always the prevailing force on the field, and it is often rendered moot by some improbable, unforeseen (perhaps divine?) circumstances.”

You can check-out Nappi’s story here.

And the Bleacher report has a great analysis of this weekend’s Mets Yankees matchups here.
