Did John Lennon Have an Eating Disorder? Is Mick Jagger Cheap?

By Donna Donna

Was John Lennon bulimic?  Is Mick Jagger a penny pinching right-wing conservative?  Could be, according to a new book. Backstage Pass VIP, by Debra Sharon Davis promises to depict “the human side of celebrity music icons.”

John Lennon’s friend, singer Harry Nilsson, allegedly told the author that Lennon was “confused about his obsession with food” Davis claims Lennon was always hungry, loved to eat but "hated the feeling of being full" so he would often force himself to vomit after eating. “

“Lennon was surrounded by talented musicians, but many had drinking and drug problems – so it was hard for them to see Lennon’s purging behavior as extraordinary.

“One must also realize that at that time the public and the media were unaware of bulimia as an addiction and health risk – which made it all the more frightening for John Lennon. He literally had no point-of-reference on what he was experiencing,” she said.

According to the author, Nilsson told her that Lennon said “food was ‘sacred’ to him and it frightened him. He saw it as ‘a great weakness’ and he referred to it as ‘a lack of discipline…”

And what about Mick Jagger? The book describes him as a closet conservative obsessed with money.

Author Davis spent time travelling with The Rolling Stones in the 1980's and tells the story of Mick asking then wife Bianca to please put a bra on under her see-through top because his mom was coming to visit. Davis says “Bianca refused, stormed out and Jagger was left to nervously fix a tray of tea and spread a bunch of pastries on a doily to cater to his mum.”

The book also goes into detail regarding Jagger's renowned meanness and even mentions a time when he once checked on the price of office pencil sharpeners.

Backstage Pass VIP is out now.
