Skateboard through LA with The Doors in their new video

By Donna Donna

40 years ago The Doors released their iconic LA Woman album. It would turn out to be their last record as Jim Morrison would pass away only a few months later. A 40th anniversary edition of the album has just been released and now a new video for the title track is out.

In the new clip a camera follows pro skateboarders Kenny Anderson, Alex Olson and Braydon Szafranski through the streets of L.A. as they cruise through the band’s old LA haunts from Venice to Hollywood, downtown L.A., and more.

The sharp eyed will spot Door’s drummer John Densmore, guitarist Robby Krieger and Jac Holzman, who signed the Doors to his Elektra Records label, in the video. But Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek wasn’t available the day of the filming so only his name appears graffitied on a wall.

The video is fast paced and cool, but only 3½ minutes long! The original track clocks in at 7:49 so it kinda feels like we’re getting shortchanged and the clip ends before we even get to hear Jim sing the classic lyric “mister mojo rising!” Now that’s criminal. It sure would be nice if footage that wound up on the cutting room floor could be resurrected into a “director’s cut” of the complete song and maybe even get some shots of Ray Manzarek (one of the most interesting figures in Rock)included too. Oh well, maybe for the 50th anniversary!
