Welcome home FDNY FF and Islip Terrace FD volly Rob Wiedmann! After suffering critical burns fighting a fire last December, Rob finally returns home to Islip Terrace today.
You may remember the dramatic pictures of Rob, engulfed in flames tumbling through a second story window of a burning brownstone in Brooklyn. Rob was burned over 50% of his body and has endured 10 surgeries in his recovery.
His doctor says "he has a long road ahead of him." Dr. Roger Yurt added "But he couldn't be here today without the fortitude that he's had to get him through this."
Fire houses all over Long Island held numerous blood drives in Wiedmann’s honor (Rob has an extremely rare blood type) and hundreds and hundreds of Long Islanders rolled up their sleeves to help. Rob is with FDNY Rescue 2, he’s 38 years old and is married with 2 young children. It’s great to have you home Rob! We’re all pulling for you and your family.
