NEW YORK, NY - OCTOBER 31: The foundations to the historic Rockaway boardwalk are all that remain after it was washed away during Hurricane Sandy on October 31, 2012 in the Queens borough of New YorkCity. With the death toll currently at 55 and millions of homes and businesses without power, the US east coast is attempting to recover from the affects of floods, fires and power outages brought on by superstorm Sandy. The former pastor of Infant Jesus Church in Port Jefferson, Fr. Chuck Romano, is now at St. Raymond's Parish in East Rockaway. He contacted Infant Jesus last week to plead for help in the recovery from the two recent storms.

So many on the Rockaway peninsula literally have nothing left. Water is contaminated with sewage -- so fresh water is welcomed.

Fr. Chuck provided the list below of badly needed items for the folks in East Rockaway and the surrounding communities. Infant Jesus Church will ALSO need volunteers to help collect, sort and box donations and to bring the donations to Fr. Chuck.

Infant Jesus Parish Social Ministry will be collecting these Storm Relief items on Tuesday, Nov. 13th, Wednesday, Nov. 14th and Thursday, Nov. 15th from 10am to 6pm at the Infant Jesus Convent Building located at 110 Hawkins Street, Port Jefferson.

Please help and reach out to your neighbors, families and friends to assist with the collection of these basic but most necessary items: Soap, Bleach,Towels, Bedding, Toiletries, Detergent, Shampoo, Deodorant, Conditioner, Toothpaste, Flash Lights, Toilet Paper, Tooth Brushes, Garbage Bags, Batteries D & AA, Cleaning Supplies, Gloves (heavy duty),Water (any size).
