To Mets fans, R.A. Dickey was a hero whether he won the Cy Young award or not. But now that he has, us fans are over the moon with joy, because his is a remarkable story of triumph over more than one adversity.
I can’t recommend his memoir, “Wherever I Wind Up: My Quest for Truth, Authenticity and the Perfect Knuckleball” highly enough for the lessons in faith, courage, and perseverance that it illustrates.
Dickey goes on to thank family, friends, mentors and of course the Mets and their fans saying, “And how could I not feel anything but gratitude for the New York Mets, who took a chance on me when nobody in baseball would, and…to all of you Met fans, to be a recipient of your support and passion has been one of the greatest thrills of my baseball life.”
No, Thank you Mr. Dickey for giving us beleaguered Mets fans not only something to cheer about but someone to inspire us as well.
