Aerosmith and Kiss at War

Steven Tyler Vs. Paul Stanley
Steven Tyler Vs. Paul Stanley

By Donna Donna

A war of words has broken out between these two powerhouse bands and Steven Tyler hurled the first bomb when he called Kiss a "comic book" band.

Last week in an interview with a Florida radio station Steven Tyler said, “A Kiss lick and a Joe Perry lick – two different worlds, and I, sometimes, depending on the time of day, get offended.  I hear that and go, ‘It’s alright.  But do they really mean it?’  And ‘What’s this all about?

And that’s why I think Aerosmith has been around forever.  We really do take ourselves seriously.”  Joe Perry called the bands “two different animals,” saying Kiss went “the theatrical way and used rock and roll, kind of, as their soundtrack”while for Aerosmith, “the music is our show.”

Now Kiss singer Paul Stanley is responding saying "Maybe Steven's feeling a bit full of himself because he has a new album coming out.

When the [new Aerosmith] album comes out let's put [it side by side with ours and] let the music do the talking." That's ironic, I wonder if Stanley realizes the "Let the Music Do the Talking" is the title of Joe Perry's 1980 solo debut album?"

Paul concluded saying, “Steven may have been over enthused and needs a reality check.”

According to Vh1 when "Kiss and Aerosmith toured together in 2003.  Stanley recalled the trek saying, “Steven insisted that they close the show.  I really [didn’t] care because one way or the other you have to come up onstage.  He had a chip on his shoulder back then.  [He] was always looking down his nose a bit at Kiss.  Seeing him come onstage to an underwhelmed audience and [seeing] people walking out [made me smile].”
