50 years ago today Martin Luther King made his 'I Have a Dream' speech and 20 years ago today Billy Joel's album 'River of Dreams' began a 3 week run at #1.
There's no evidence that there's any connection between the two, but the video for the title song does feature an African-American gospel choir.
Did you know the painting on the album cover was done by Christie Brinkley and that Billy says the songs came to him in a dream? According to website Song Facts:
"Billy Joel gets a lot of song ideas in his dreams, and often struggles to remember them when he wakes up. For this song, however, he woke up with the song in his head, but tried NOT to write it, [Billy said] "I thought, Who the hell am I to try to pull off this gospel song, so I took a shower to wash this song away. I sang it in the shower and knew I had to do it."
