David Bowie celebrates his 66th birthday today with a gift for his fans, his first new music in almost a decade! Bowie's silence in recent years has lead to speculation about his recording future. Read more.
The sudden appearance of his new song even took his lable by surprise! Columbia Records called the new song a "treasure" that appeared "as if out of nowhere." The song called "Where Are We Now?" is a melencholy look back at Berlin in the 1970s when the city was divided by the communist Berlin Wall.
Bowie spent 3 years in Berlin in the 70s in what would become an intesely creative period that yeilded the albums Low, Heroes, and Lodger.
The song, is available on iTunes and is free to view on Bowie's website.
The tune will be included on Bowie's first new album since 2003 called "The Next Day." The album, which comes out in March, will contain 14 songs, and a deluxe edition will feature three bonus tracks.
