The Flu, Explained

By Donna Donna

It's everywhere! The flu? No, media coverage of the flu! Well actually yes the flu too. And while I'd like to make fun of the media's "flu frenzy," this flu season is no joke.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has officially declared it an epidemic. And while most of us know that if we get the flu it means 7 to 10 days of misery and then it's over, for the elderly, infants, and those with compromised immune systems it could be a death sentence. So not spreading the flu the vulnerable should be a priority for each of us.

But at this point is it worth getting a flu shot?  How do you know if you even have the flu (or just a bad cold)? And can you get the flu from the flu shot, as has been rumored?

Well thank you Mother Jones magazine for reaching out to "several experts to set the record straight" and answer these and other common flu questions in an article entitled "The Flu, Explained."
