'Rhoda' Diagnosed With Terminal Brain Cancer

Mary Tyler Moore show
Mary Tyler Moore show

By Donna Donna

In the 1970's, The Mary Tyler Moore Show was a sitcom filled with iconic characters. None more so than Valerie Harper's Rhoda. When you're young it seems that there are only two kinds of women, the perky-pretty-get-all-the-breaks-have-a-nice-life Mary Richards' types, and the rest of us, the Rhoda Morgensterns of the world. We always had to try harder and even that was never a guarantee of success, but that's OK 'cause we had plenty of fun along the way. And boy did we ever identify with Rhoda! The wise cracking, knock me down and I'll just get up again, upstairs neighbor and best friend to the almost perfect Mary.

Well it looks like this time, Rhoda may be down for the count. Actress Valerie Harper has been diagnosed with brain cancer and doctors give her only 3 months to live. She's 73 now and up until her diagnosis was working in live theater. Speaking for all those young girls that identified with her more than Mary, all I can say is "Thanks Valerie, for all the laughs and all those life lessons. May your final days be filled with love."
