Dancing Barefoot Patti Smith with Eddie Vedder and Johnny Depp

By Webmaster

When I was younger one of my favorite records was Patti Smith's "Easter" and in 1978 she played the Calderone Theater in Hempstead. I remember she showed up late and told us it was because she opened The Rolling Stones show in Atlanta and took a helicopter to the show. She was awesome as the crowd put out our hands and she proceeded to walk across the palms of people deep into the crowd. I just remember thinking like how cool is that. It's a shame we didn't have camera phones back then.

Anyway she was part of a very cool jam at the West Memphis Three Benefit in Little Rock, Arkansas on Saturday. During the show, Eddie Vedder and Patti Smith performed Smith's song "People Have the Power," with actor Johnny Depp playing guitar.

The goal of the concert was to raise awareness and funds for legal fees to help three men convicted as teenagers in the 1993 murders of three eight-year-old boys from West Memphis, Arkansas. Many suspect the men were wrongly convicted.
