Our live-only weekend got me reminiscing about my first-ever concert. And what a doozy it was!

Having been first introduced to Rush in high school with the sublime Presto, I eagerly dropped a wad on Roll the Bones. But more importantly, I popped my live concert cherry by seeing them at Madison Square Garden in the winter of 1991.

I found out early on why Rush is regarded (deservedly so) as a top-notch live band.  It was also around the second tune of their set (see below) that I was formally introduced to the saying, “Once the lights go down, the lighters come out.”

Within seconds I was engulfed in pot smoke. And it came from all directions for the entire evening.  So by the time they closed out the show over two hours later, I was completely baked.

No matter, it was an amazing intro to the awesomeness of the live show. To this day I still get jazzed whenever the lights go down and the band of my choice takes the stage.
