Lambert + Queen = A Kind of Magic

Queen with Adam Lambert in Kiev
Queen with Adam Lambert in Kiev

By Pete Rizzo

I know full well I’m wading in the kiddie pool of popular opinion here. But I am seriously liking the pairing of Queen and Adam Lambert and would love to see more of it.

Yes, Lambert’s out-sized personality and vocal stylings are an acquired taste and, to say the least, divisive.

However, I am surprised at how much hate people seem to spew about him (see the Classic Rock review of Queen’s concert in Kiev below for proof).

Why?

Is it because of his sexual orientation? This argument holds no weight whatsoever. Freddie wasn’t exactly secretive about his homosexuality. Does that take away from his stature as one of rock’s best vocalists and frontmen? No, nor should it!

Is it the voice? Many of Lambert’s harshest critics deride him because he’s so over-the-top when he sings. Well, that’s exactly what I love about Lambert’s singing and it’s the same reason I loved Freddie’s voice.

Keep it coming, guys, preferably to U.S. soil. Read more.
