Latest VH disc their best, and that’s the ‘Truth’

I know I’m grossly late to the love/hate debate around Van Halen’s latest album, A Different Kind of Truth. But, being new to blogging, I am throwing my hat in, nonetheless.

I admit I was skeptical. My initially tepid reaction to ‘Tattoo’ didn’t help. But one 10-hour work day later with the song on ‘Repeat’, I was hooked. Once ‘Chinatown’ and ‘She’s The Woman’ blew me away, I was officially stoked for the entire disc. Now, I’m going out on a limb by saying that I think ‘Truth’ is their best album, ever.

I know some of you VH purists are probably up in arms over that declaration. But,…

  1. ‘Truth’ is the only ‘clunker-free’ VH disc that I can listen to from beginning to end (Sammy albums included).
  2. With all due respect to the great Michael Anthony, the rhythm section has never sounded better, and much of the credit has to go to Wolfgang. He’s fantastic!

I really missed the raunch of the Dave years and was only too happy to get it back in droves on ‘Truth’.

My favorite track!

I plan to keep my album review hat on next week when I chime in with my two-cents on Rush’s new disc, Clockwork Angels.
