Great Music Needs Not Just Hands & Feet, But Heart

I don’t cry often at movies, but I know the waterworks will come fast and furious when this one comes out.

Jason Becker was a 19-year old guitar prodigy who was being compared to virtuosos like Yngwie Malmsteen. Many said that this guy was on the fast track to being an all-time guitar great and he couldn’t even legally drink.

Then came Lou Gehrig’s disease, which soon robbed him of his ability to play the guitar, and in time, his ability to do much of anything.

That is, except take away his passion to create new music.

That he can still do that (exceptionally well, I might add, thanks to technology and his sheer will) over 20 years after being given a death sentence is truly amazing.

That he’s able to keep his goofball sense of humor in the face of a merciless disease is even more incredible.

Talk about a gloriously upraised middle finger in the face of adversity! That this guy is an inspiration is a gross understatement. He’s a marvel!
