Used to be whenever I heard the phrase “tape measure home run” and I’d automatically think of legends like of Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle. Now it’s forever tainted thanks to the likes of Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa and Barry Bonds. Which is why I love stories like Tim Lincecum’s no-hitter from a few days ago!
I’d love to see phrases like ‘second major league no-hitter in 11 days’, ‘game winning-suicide squeeze’ and ‘triple play’ back in the baseball vernacular more often again because, quite frankly, I’m sick and tired of hearing about ‘the cream’, ‘Biogenesis’ and ‘Scott Boras’.
** Btw, I find it hilarious that the number of no-hitters pitched in MLB started going up around the same time that the league started cracking down on juice users.
