It’s unfortunate how some stand-up comedians take on a mythic rock star status, and not in the happiest way either. One of the sadder instances I hear about is when stand-up comics die young.
This is a big deal for me because I’m a huge fan of the craft and have immense respect for anyone who can do it successfully, with originality and with integrity. Heaven knows I don’t have the balls to do it!
I recently saw this documentary which gives a really good perspective of this sometimes heart-breaking world. Jim Norton hit the nail on the head when talking about the neediness that most comedians feel and often only gets fulfilled from a live audience. Click here.
Over the next several months I will from time to time cherry-pick some of my favorite stand-up comedians who died prematurely and offer you some of their more memorable bits. My hope is that it helps start your day off with a chuckle.
