Gerry was nominated by his coworker, Chris, who said, “Detective Gerry DeStefano was hired by the Nassau County Police Department on 12-03-98. As a Police Officer Gerry was assigned to the Third Precinct. After working approximately ten years on patrol Gerry was designated to the rank of Detective in October of 2007.
While assigned to the Detective Division Gerry was assigned various types of cases including numerous homicides and violent gang cases. During the investigations Gerry was very adept in all areas of Detective work from interview and interrogations to crime scene management as well as court testimony. After ten years of establishing himself as a Detective who excelled in crime scene management as well as being profoundly proficient in courtroom testimony Gerry was requested by his supervisors to transfer to the Department’s elite Crime Scene Search Section.
The collection of evidence at any crime scene is vital and necessary to any successful prosecution. Gerry quickly became one of the most relied upon members of the Nassau County Crime Scene Unit. During his time assigned to Crime Scene Gerry worked on many cases such as homicides, gang shooting, sexual assaults as well as other high profile cases. Gerry was also tasked with training new Detectives assigned to Crime Scene.
After a distinguished career, in July of this year 2021 Gerry will retire from the Nassau County Police Department as a Second Grade Detective”.
