Detective Lieutenant Dawn Gigante was nominated by her husband, Sal Gigante, who said, “Detective Lieutenant Dawn Gigante has been a member of the Suffolk County Police Department since 2011. She began her career as a Patrol Officer in the 3rd Precinct and patrolled the Central Islip area. She then transferred to 3rd Precinct Crime Section where she was instrumental in arresting trans national gang members. She was promoted to Detective, when the Department created the first of its kind, Human Trafficking unit, helping to give a voice to trafficking victims. She was promoted to Sergeant in the 3rd Precinct and later transferred to the Internal Affairs Bureau where she was promoted to Lieutenant. This year she became the first female Commanding Officer of Identification Section, when she was promoted to Detective Lieutenant. She is the only female Detective Lieutenant in the Department. Identification Section assists in murder investigations Countywide.”
