Doc and Darryl Together Again

Citi Field is adding two more numbers to the rafters.

The New York Mets announced that they are retiring Darryl Strawberry’s No. 18 and Dwight Gooden’s No. 16. The honors are being done in 2024.

Yes, much has been made of their off-the-field struggles through the years. But whether it was Doc rushing off the field and getting mobbed by his teamates after clinching the Mets first playoff appearance since 1973,…

,…or Darryl putting an exclamation point on the ‘86 World Series in Game 7,...

,...they are two pieces of one of the most dominant MLB teams ever, and a year of baseball that I will never forget. Gooden had one of the nastiest knee-buckling curveballs I’ve ever seen, and Darryl possessed one of the most beautiful swings at the plate.

Both were an absolute joy to watch!
