Everything you should know about NY’s newly announced economic reopening

Later this month, many of the guidelines we’ve come familiar with will be coming to an end.

New York State along with the whole tri-state area just made big announcements to put effort toward reopening the economy. Later this month, many of the guidelines we’ve come familiar with will be coming to an end.

Today it was announced that most capacity restrictions will conclude on May 19th. This includes establishments from retail to food service, to gyms, entertainment, and beyond. Governor Cuomo stated that “all arrows are pointing in the right direction.” In New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey, the capacity for outdoor stadiums will be raised to 33%.

When it comes to social gatherings, here are the changes being made and the dates they take effect:

  • May 17: Outdoor food/beverage curfew lifted
  • May 31: Indoor food and beverage curfew lifted
  • May 19: Indoor catered gathering limit up to 250 or 500 with testing/full vaccination
  • May 19: Residential gathering limit up to 50

This was big news for those Long Islanders holding weddings in the coming year. Wedding dance restrictions are lightening up as well, as “dance zone” guidance will be replaced with social distancing and masks, according to News 12.

A part of the mass reopening, several industries, which have had to remain closed since the start of the pandemic will be able to start operating again, such as Broadway. The full list includes restaurants, museums, theaters, Broadway, retail locations, and shops.
