Fast Times At Lerxst High

Sweet Jamaican pipe dreams, Golden Acapulco nights, and Cherry Lopez mornings

We’ve got the first new tune out from Alex Lifeson and his new Envy of None project.

And word is he didn’t have to travel all the way to Bangkok for inspiration on this new song.

Word is he wrote this tune while Rush were mixing what would turn out to be their final album together, “Clockwork Angels”, back in 2012, per a recent Ultimate Classic Rock interview.

“I did an interview with High Times and the interviewer brought along a friend, an esteemed grower who provided a sample of his creation named Cherry Lopez,…Because I was on an EST body clock, I was up most mornings @ 5:00 AM. I’d order coffee, sit on my hotel room balcony, read the paper and wake and bake then dive into making some fun sounds while the city was waking up.”

What scant knowledge I have of Cherry Lopez (or weed, for that matter), I naturally read up on Lerxst’s greenery of choice and found that, when smoked, “this strain can make you feel euphoria, creativity, calm”. Or in the case or Mr. Lifeson, the drive to carve out a Hall of Fame career.
