Headed for ‘Heartbreak’ in Montreal

One of the WWE’s most notorious WTF moments turns 25!

Wrestling aficionados will no doubt remember the “Montreal Screwjob”, from Survivor Series 1997 during the championship match between Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart and Shawn ‘The Heartkreak Kid’ Michaels.

A sharpshooter, a premature bell being rung (not counting the metaphorical bell Bret rung courtesy of Vince McMahon’s face afterwards) and one boiling hot loogie later, WWE went down in infamy. Pity, too, seeing as the match between Bret and Shawn was a damn good one up until that point.

As infamous as that night was, Bret and Shawn reuniting and burying the hatchet 12 years later was as long overdue of a reunion to savor.
