Jim Dunlop | Honoree for April 16th, 2021

Jim was nominated by his coworker, Amy, who said, “A lineworker once told me there are maybe two weeks of the year with “comfortable” weather conditions. On a hot day, it wouldn’t be unusual for a lineworker to pour several ounces of water (sweat) from their rubber safety sleeves when they finish a job. The work is extremely physical. It is also intellectually demanding. Working with high voltage electricity while hovering 60 or 80 feet up in a bucket or tethered to a pole for hours is no joke. Couple that with working around the clock in extreme heat, cold, snow, ice, rain and wind … and guess what? Most of them would still say they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Jim Dunlop of Farmingdale says that. He’s been on the job just shy of 30 years as a lineworker, emergency services specialist and, now, as a “working A foreman,” where he helps train apprentice lineworkers, both at the academy and out in the field.

In 2017, Jim wrote a song paying homage to his trade. A music video featuring Jim and his co-workers – all local lineworkers – was just created for his U Need a Lineman song! You can see the video below.

Lineworker Appreciation Day is Sunday. Can we give a shoutout to Jim and the nearly 200 lineworkers/first responders at PSEG Long Island whose job it is to provide us all with safe and reliable electricity, regardless of the weather? Thank you!”

Jim, thanks for all you do for the community. As a way of saying thanks, you will receive a $100 gift card to Moe’s Southwest Grill.
