Joseph Mueller, of the Nassau County Police Department, was nominated by James Springer who said, “On June 11, 2026, Nassau County Police Officer Joseph Mueller was honored with the Theodore Roosevelt Award. This award is presented to Police Officers across the nation who have overcome significant challenges and injuries.
One year earlier, on June 8, 2025, Officer Mueller suffered a serious medical event while on duty that required an extensive recovery process. Facing months of physical therapy and rehabilitation, he remained determined to return to the job he loves. Through hard work, dedication, and perseverance, Officer Mueller committed himself to a rigorous recovery program.
In December 2025, he successfully returned to full-duty status and resumed his role as a sniper with the Precision Firearms Team. Since returning to duty, Officer Mueller has made multiple arrests and responded to numerous tactical callouts.
Officer Mueller’s remarkable journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and commitment to public service. His ability to overcome a significant health challenge and return to protecting the residents of Nassau County exemplifies the highest ideals of law enforcement. Congratulations to Officer Mueller on this well-deserved recognition.”
