1929

Dick Clark was born on this date. Known as the “World’s Oldest Teenager” and host of American TV’s longest-running music show American Bandstand. He also created and produced the annual American Music Awards show and hosted New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.

1977

In one of the most unusual duets, David Bowie sang “Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy” with Bing Crosby on his Christmas special which aired in the U.S. on this date. Bowie stated that he appeared on the show primarily because “I just knew my mother liked him (Crosby)”. VH1 placed the duet at number forty three on its 2000 list of “100 Greatest Rock & Roll Moments on TV”. Bing Crosby died 5 weeks before the special aired in America.

1979

Pink Floyd released “The Wall” featuring the songs “Comfortably Numb”, “Another Brick in the Wall”, and “Run Like Hell”. “The Wall” is one of the best-known concept albums. It has sold over 30 million copies and it is Pink Floyd’s second best-selling album behind “The Dark Side of the Moon” as well as one of the best-selling albums of all time. In 2000 it was voted number 30 in Colin Larkin’s “All Time Top 1000 Albums”. It was also included in Rolling Stone’s 2003 and 2012 lists of the greatest albums of all time.

1982

Michael Jackson released his album “Thriller”. It produced a record setting seven Top Ten singles including ‘Beat It’, which featured guitarists Eddie Van Halen and Steve Lukather (Toto), ‘Billie Jean’, and the title track. We can’t forget to mention the video too. “Thriller” is the best selling album of all time.
