One of rock and roll’s most iconic drummers is gone.
Rolling Stones legend Charlie Watts has passed away at the age of 80.
Charlie achieved nowhere near the notoriety of Mick, Keith, Ron and Bill. But he was the quiet anchor of the band for six decades.
My first exposure to Watts was the first time I watched the video for “Start Me Up”, which MTV played religiously back in the day. To this day I think it’s one of his standout performances.
“Sympathy For The Devil” will never be mistaken for my favorite Stones tune, but I do love Watts’ work on it.
RIP good sir!
