RIP Mick/Ric Shrimpton

Heaven just got 11 decibels louder.

Another member of the “Spinal Tap” family has passed on. Ric Parnell, who played combustible drummer Mic Shrimpton in the legendary film, has passed away at the age of 70.

More than a film punchine, Parnell was quite an accomplished drummer who played with the likes of Toni Basil, Michael Des Barres, Yes’ Jon Anderson, Ravi Shankar and Wayne Kramer of MC5 and was evidently good enough to receive offers to join Journey and Whitesnake (both of which he turned down).

But its his incendiary role as Mick (and later, brother Ric) Shrimpton that he will be best remembered for.

May every day in Heaven be an “11″, good sir! RIP!
