Another broadcasting great is gone.

Tim McCarver has passed away at the age of 81.

His career in baseball spanned over 50 years, the last three decades of which was spent as a sportscaster. I’m happy to say Tim McCarver was one of the voices I heard as a kid that helped jump-start my desire to pursue a career in broadcasting.

In fact, McCarver was also part of the blueprint I tried to follow when I began calling little league baseball games as an 11-year old. His time broadcasting for the New York Mets is a personal highlight for me.

I also remember this call that he was a part of from 2001 very vividly.
