August 15th, 1979, Led Zeppelin released “In Through the Out Door.” This is their final studio album. It’s the last album they released while John Bonham is still alive. And they do something pretty different with this with the album covers. There’s actually 6 different covers and they’re all pictures of the same scene but taken from different perspectives. Now if you’re a collector and you think you’re going to buy all six, you might have a little bit of a tough time because they show up in record stores in brown paper bags with rubber stamps on the outside telling you the name of the album and that it’s Led Zeppelin.
Today in 1969, day number one of Woodstock. Some of the performers Richie Havens, Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie. Now, the headliners really haven’t shown up yet, but from the number of people that are there, you can tell that something’s happening.
On this day in 1965, The Beatles play Shea Stadium, home of the New York Mets. This is the first time a rock band has headlined a stadium. 56,000 people. Now, to show you what Beatlemania really means, It actually seems like most of the crowd is screaming girls. No matter how many are girls and how many are guys, the audience is so loud they drown out the band.
