August 8th, 1992, Playing at Olympic Stadium in Montreal, it’s Metallica opening up for Guns N’ Roses. There’s a pyrotechnic incident. James Hetfield burns the entire left side of his body and they need to cut their set short. So Guns N’ Roses take the stage. Axl is upset with monitor problems and leaves the stage after only 15 minutes and a near riot ensues.
Today in 1987, U2 score their second number one hit as their single, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” from their monster album, “The Joshua Tree”, goes to the top of the charts.
On this date in 1970, Janis Joplin stopping in a bar before she does a show at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, New York. While she’s grabbing a few drinks, she writes the song “Mercedes-Benz.” which she performs that night. And then she does just one more concert before passing away.
Today in 1969, the Beatles shoot the iconic album cover for their “Abbey Road” album at the crosswalk outside the Abbey Road studios.
