August 27, 1991. Pearl Jam released their debut album, 10. This is a huge album for the band. It’s got hits on it like Alive, Evenflow, and Jeremy. And it actually starts doing really well because of MTV, which is showing videos for Alive and for Jeremy. But the band in later years shy away from the video type of things. Now, the album sells very well and it absolutely paves the way for a long career for the band.
Today in 1990, sadly, we lose an extraordinary guitarist in Stevie Ray Vaughan. Now, August 26th, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble were the opening act for Eric Clapton at Alpine Valley Music Theater in Wisconsin. There’s a big jam to end the night. It includes Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, Stevie’s brother Jimmie, and Stevie himself. And then just after midnight, Stevie gets on a helicopter that does not make it to his destination, and music fans around the globe are still mourning Stevie to this day, rightfully so.
